Helping a customer with Wireless printing problems
We were asked to visit a customer in Colwyn Bay to repair a problem with their Wireless HP Printer.
After talking with the customer we discovered that they had been setting it up every day and that when they turned off their laptop they couldnt connect to the printer again without having to run through the whole setup.
They also explained that sometimes even this procedure would not help.
Intermittent faults can be tricky to diagnose but fortunately our engineers experience came to the fore here. The customer was using an old router that had been provided some years previously by their Internet Provider. We queried the router and checked that the printer was connected. The printer was not showing and so we restarted the router. After it had rebooted it was happily showing the printer and the customers pc was able to print. We then turned off the printer and rebooted the pc and when everything came back up the router was not seeing the printer again.
We explained what we had found to the customer and between us we decided to fit a new router. We set the router up with the customers internet settings and set up their phones and ipad to the new wireless network. Again we shut it all down and restarted it all to check and the printer remained visible to the router and the pc. Just to be on the safe side we repeated the shutdown - restart cycle a couple of times and the new router did its job flawlessly.
